Memory Tapes

For Raven ([personal profile] fogboundcrow)

The tape starts out in the PE faulty office, and there’s obvious tension in the air. Ren, his friends, and Akechi are there. Akechi appears to be human, so there’s no obvious difference. The others are quite different;

Morgana is in his cat form, but he has two cat tails instead of one.
Ryuji has grey skin and red eye color.
Ann has cat ears, a cat tail, her skin is covered in fur matching her hair, and her blue eyes have been cat-like.
Yusuke has fox ears, two fox tails, and his eye color a burnished copper with slit pupils.
Makoto has wolf ears, a wolf tail, and her skin covered in fur also matching her hair.
Futaba has goat horns on her head, pointy ears, a goat tail, and goat-like legs which include hooves.
Haru has light green skin, green eyes, and dark green hair, which has some plant growth. Even a couple flowers that bloom during autumn.

Makoto asks Akechi what he wanted to talk about, but Akechi responses by revealing some photos. Mainly ones showing Yusuke and Ann returning to the real world from the Metaverse. This likely was taken after their first visit to Okumura’s palace. Akechi even notes that he has video footage too.

He reveals that he knows about the other world and that he has the Meta-Nav, which he shows his phone to prove it. He also reveals that he knows they aren’t human and can see their true appearances. When Ryuji demands that he prove it, Akechi proceeds to point to each of them, correctly identifying what they are. He also knows they are indeed the Phantom Thieves.

When Haru says they didn’t kill anyone, after Akechi mentions her father, he says he believes them. And that he had seen the ‘true’ culprit. He claims when he took those photos, he ended up at the other world, where the ‘true’ culprit was following the others, and even shot at Akechi when he was noticed. Then he awakened to ‘that power’. Which Morgana asks if he means he has a persona.

Akechi is quite surprised by hearing Morgana talk, or rather, if one knows what to look for, it’s clearly an act.

“That can’t be right. He’s still human.”

That makes Akechi smile and he moves a hand to his sleeve and pulls out what looks like a black and white bead bracelet, that he had hidden under his sleeve. He claims that this bracelet is special, and he only found out after awakening that it could hide his true appearance, even from other transformed like him. He had kept it on because he was afraid of being mistaken for the ‘true’ culprit. When asked to prove it, he proceeds to take the bracelet off.

There’s a shift and suddenly Akechi’s appearance is quite different. His face has become more bird-like, a crow to be exact, his hair has either changed into feathers or become more feather-like, his feet have been replaced by crow feet, and black wings have suddenly appeared. Forcing those who were standing behind him to back away from the wings.

“A Crow Tengu?!”

Akechi nods. “As you can see, I am also part bird. Now you know why I had to hide it. It’s also useful in making my wings intangible so people don’t keep running into them. Or bump into doorways.” he offers the bracelet to Ren. “Would you like to try it on?”

Ren agrees and slips on the bracelet. The change is instantaneous and Ren’s pointy ears and fangs disappear, his eye color changed from red to dark grey, and his skin even his skin looking more healthy.

The others are amazed at the change, even Makoto leans in to sniff Ren, and says that Ren even smells human right now. Ren takes a hand to his chest to check for a heart beat. Nothing. He frowns and notes the lack of heartbeat. Unfortunately, the bracelet cannot fake heartbeats or warmth. It can only mask his appearance and scent.

Ren takes it off, which removes the illusion, and hands it back to Akechi.

Things resume and Akechi says that the police consider them the murderers behind Okumura’s death, but he wants to ‘save’ them, and thus offers to make a ‘deal’ with them. Either they cooperate with him in finding the truth, or he’ll reveal his photos and video to the police. As it is, the police are pressuring Sae, who’s leading the case, to solve things. And it seems Sae can’t make rational judgments at the moment, and may resort to making up evidence to get them arrested.

On top of cooperation, he also wants them to disband afterwards. Which Ren points out that he’s asking for too much. So Akechi allows them some time to think on it and decides if they want to accept his offer or not.

He slips the bracelet back on, which restores the human disguise and he checks his phone. He asks if they can cut the panel short since he knows they called him here for intel. Makoto says she can figure something out, and Akechi leaves.

Ryuji of course gets frustrated that they got played by Akechi. Most of the others leave except Ren and Morgana. They talk about how it’s clear Akechi was lying, and there’s a good chance he might be the Black Mask after all.

Then Morgana gets into Ren’s bag and they leave as well.

For Yaeko ([personal profile] lifeinit)

Tape starts outside of Kaneshiro’s palace. Joker is there along with Mona, Skull, Panther, Fox, and Queen.

Joker doesn’t look that much different than his counterpart other than his coat more resembling a cloak that suits a vampire, and he’s wearing a white cravet around his neck. Mona looks mostly the same, but having two tails instead of one. Skull looks the same, other than his grey skin and red eye color. Panther’s outfit is mostly the same, but it lacks the fail tail as she has a real cat tail. What with her being a werecat and all. Fox’s is also mostly the same, but without a fake tail. Given he has two fox tails. Queen’s outfit is exactly the same.

It seems to be right after Queen’s awakening as they go over the basics, and Joker even warning her about his tendency to feed on shadows from time to time.

“And the other thing I needed to know?”

Joker smiles, and suddenly there’s a poof and in Joker’s place is a cartoon bat. Complete with a nose shaped like a heart, and wearing a tiny version of the mask Joker usually wears.

Mona explains he can do that because of peoples’ cognitions of vampires turning into bats, as well as Joker not being able to talk while in bat form. Fox even takes the time to give Bat!Joker affection by scratching his tiny head, which the vampire bat makes happy bat noises at that.

He does turn back to normal and they move to look for another way into the bank since the front door is locked up now.

The video cuts to when after they got off the top of the elevator, that they come across security cameras. Joker turns into a bat and it turns out not only does it help him see them better, but the shadows patrolling don’t see him.

Cue a montage of when Joker turned into a bat to check the cameras and using what he saw to help them out. Eventually it does end when they end up in an elevator and they are going down towards what looks like a giant lock mechanism.

Instead of trying to navigate that, they decide to head to the safe room and stop for the day. Figuring it would be better to wait to deal with that mess when they aren’t so tired.

Monster Persona-User AU Info

In this AU, persona users who awaken to their personas become monsters or youkai. In this Ren's case, he turned into a vampire when he awakened to his persona.

CW for blood and death mention )

Powers: Aside from his persona and wild card abilities (as well as the Third Eye ability from the God of Control), he does have a couple of abilities as a vampire.

- Floating: At the start, he could only float if he was asleep or angry/upset enough. Now he can control it but can't really use it to fly.

- Bat form: In the Metaverse (and most likely Tartarus and the TV World if he were to ever go there), he can turn into a cartoon vampire bat. The bat form wears a small mask like his mouse form (when he got mousified), and the nose is heart-shaped. He can't talk while in this form.

- Faster healing: He can heal slightly faster than humans, though it depends on how severe the injuries are for him to heal. Drinking blood can help as well.
